Religious worker visas

LMIA-exempt work permits for clergy, missionaries and lay workers coming to Canada to serve a religious congregation or organisation.

This is another LMIA-exempt stream under the International Mobility Program, available where the role is genuinely religious in nature, the sponsoring organisation is an established religious body in Canada, and the position meets the programme's requirements.

We work with both the applicant and the sponsoring congregation to build a file that shows the role, the organisation and the applicant's standing within the faith clearly enough for the officer to approve it without follow-up questions.

You will need:

  • A letter from the Canadian congregation describing the role and its terms
  • Evidence of your ordination, training or standing within the faith
  • Proof the sponsoring organisation is a genuine, established religious body
