Guiding You Home to Canada, Step by Step

Becoming a Canadian citizen is a rewarding journey that opens doors to new rights and opportunities. It’s a clear, structured process, but it takes commitment to meet the requirements and follow the steps.

To apply, you need to have been a permanent resident living in Canada for at least three out of the last five years. You must also have filed taxes in Canada for three of those years. If you’re between 18 and 54, you’ll need to pass a citizenship test covering Canada’s history, geography, government, and rights. You’ll also need to prove proficiency in English or French through tests like CELPIP, IELTS, or TEF.

The process starts with submitting an application – online or on paper – once you’ve met the residency, tax, and language requirements. To prep for the test, use the free Discover Canada study guide or check out local citizenship classes (many are free!). Those under 18 or over 54 skip the test. The final step is the citizenship ceremony, where you take the Oath of Citizenship and officially become Canadian.

Costs include $630 CAD per adult (processing and Right of Citizenship fees) and $100 CAD per child. Processing times vary, so check the IRCC website for updates. Once approved, you’ll receive a citizenship certificate as proof.

The perks? You get to vote, run for office, travel with a Canadian passport, pass citizenship to your kids, and live anywhere in the world without losing your status. It’s a milestone that connects you to Canada’s vibrant community. Navigating this process can feel complex, but JAJ Immigration makes it easier. With expert RCIC support, we guide you through applications, test prep, and requirements, ensuring your path to Canadian citizenship is smooth and stress-free.
